Bodog Fight MMA
Ever since Calvin Ayre opened up the gates of Bodog Entertainment Group, he specified that he wants to make Bodog a brand, not just a single-focus entertainment studio. One decade and several hundred million dollars later, Bodog is one of today’s top entertainment franchises, covering categories such as online sports betting, online casino gambling, online poker, music, TV and more recently, martial arts.

The Bodog MMA (mixed martial arts) competition started out in 2006 and it was a very original way of presenting a fight tournament. All Bodog fight MMA series are produced under a certain “theme” and the one in the first series was bringing back the Cold War, but not through nuclear threats and spying, but through raw MMA fighting. The best martial artists in the USA formed a team called Team USA (the originality!), whereas the Russian formed the Red Devils.
Since then, Bodog Fight MMA has produced 4 more episodes, gaining in popularity with each one. Many believe that it’s very close to achieving the number 1 place when it comes to mixed martial arts, a place that was so far disputed in a duo, by the K1 tournaments and UFC (Ultimate Fighting Champion).

You may be wondering who competes in the Bodog Fight MMA tournaments, since many of the best fighters are already contracted by K1, UFC or other upcoming competitions. Well, Bodog’s tournaments don’t necessarily bring the best in the World, because they’re themed, so they bring the best of what that particular theme has. For example, in the Costa Rican episodes (the first series), fighters competed to gain entry to the Team USA. Fourteen of the United States’ best had only 8 eligible spots in the team, so after a series of tough matches amongst themselves, Jorge Masvidal, Mike Patt, Nick Agallar, Nick Thompson, Mario Rinaldi and Chael Sonnen are chosen for the final squad.
Other heavy names competed in the Bodog Fight MMA series over the past years, names including Fedor Emelianenko, Matt Lindand, Eddie Alvarez, Matt Lee, Eric Pele, Trevor Prangley, Yuki Kondo, Yves Edwards, Brandon Hinkle, Roman Zentsov or Yoshiki Takahashi or Tara LaRosa.

But don’t let the “themed” fight scent fool you, this is not some wrestling acting match, it’s real, raw, smack down fighting. Watching Bodog Fight MMA tournaments has a UFC taste to it, but the fighting is still somewhat more controlled and honestly, that’s a good thing. It gives more style to the fights and keeps the entire tournament in a sort of brutal sportsmanship that you get to love pretty quickly.
